Recently, the city of Port Harcourt witnessed the event of the Annual National MMU Congress hosted by our very own Rivers Baptist Conference. Glory be to our God that it was one filled with testimonies of His goodness and visitation, ministrations and the unmistakable and unforgettable presence of the Holy Spirit. “We have never seen anything like it.” delegates said.
From the very first day, the 18th of August, 2015 which witnessed the Royal Ambassadors Session in which the Word of God was delivered through our very own Pastor Emmanuel Awortu of Calvary Baptist Church, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, climaxing into prayers and petitions offered into God; to the Dinner hosted by the National MMU President, Dr. Dawari George, in which leaders of our great Convention were Special Guests; unto the second day, 19th of August, 2015, which saw the Welcome Fellowship started with a teaching on the Theme of the programme, the Power to Excel, taught through Pastor Lugard Sadoh; and the Constitution of Nominating and Resolution Committees; climaxing after a Tea Break into the best ever National MMU Congress Opening Ceremony.
THE OPENING CEREMONY
The Opening Ceremony started with a colourful Guard of Honour led by the National RA Commandant, followed by an Opening Prayer led by the Host Pastor, Rev. Dr. I.S. David, this was proceeded by the National Anthem with instrumentals performed by The Royal Chamber Orchestra and the Rivers Conference Royal Ambassadors Band.
Dignitories were recognized by the MMU President of First Baptist Church, Port Harcourt. Solo performances; Recognition of Conferences present; Welcome to Port Harcourt presentation culminating in an audio/visual display of the greatness of Rivers State and remarkable performances by the Superstars of Jesus welcoming all in their various dialects and representing most tribes in Nigeria warmed and wowed the entire audience. Kogi Baptist Conference Chairman responded on behalf of the MMU of Nigerian Baptist Convention followed by remarks by the National President which was proceeded by a Formal Declaration to declare the Congress open to the glory of God.
The Rivers Baptist Conference Chairman, Rev. Ben G. Avor closed the Ceremony with a closing prayer which was
followed by the National and MMU Anthem with instrumentals provided by the Royal Chamber Orchestra and Rivers Conference RA Band.
BUSINESS SESSION I
The men of the Convention returned after a health Break to partake in the first Business Session which saw the adoption of the Minutes of the Last Congress held at Saki, Oyo State. Other reports for consideration by the men followed this and the Session ended with a Seminar on Issues in Men’s Health taught by Dr. Olatunde Ezekiel Amusan and a Health Break.
DAY TWO, EVENING SESSION
The men resumed at 5.30pm with a string of Spirit-filled programmes and a Testimony Session. This
was proceeded by Scripture Reading and the Message, “Who is asking for your Head?” ministered through Rev. Dr. Chika Ossai-Ugbah in which the move of the Holy Spirit held sway in the Congregation and many fresh commitments to our Lord Jesus Christ were made. A closing prayer led by Rev. M.B. Oloko saw the end of the Evening Session.
DAY THEEE, MORNING SESSION
The 21st of August would be significant as the last day of this great and eventful Congress as God through Pastor Lugard Sadoh continued in His ministration, The Power to Excel II; a Leadership Training Institute (Vocational Cell Symposium) followed this with three Professionals speaking on different key areas in the life of a man: the Will and the Christian Man/Father led by Barr. Temple Waamah; Personality and Business Success led by Mr. Felix Achibiri; and, Preparing for Retirement – a Practical Checklist led by Barr. Abiye Amachree. A prayer session, and a Vocational Cells Administrative Contact Session led by the President of the Baptist World Alliance, Ayoola Badejo, closed the morning Session.
BUSINESS SESSION II
The second Business Session started immediately after the Morning Session with Opening Praise and Prayer. This was followed by presentation and discussion of several reports: the Credential, Resolution, BWA Congress, NEC and Nominating Committee Reports. A period of general discussion led by the National President followed and was proceeded by the Decoration of New Chairmen led by the RA Marshal, Coun. Ayo Adekunle. A Closing Prayer led by Rev. Dr. Nkem Osuigwe, Moderator of the host W.A. Amakiri Baptist Association closed the afternoon session.
The Closing Ceremony featured the Royal Chamber Orchestra/Rivers Conference Royal Ambassadors Band leading all in the National Anthem and MMU Anthem, Choral Performances by the Superstars of Jesus,
Performances by the Kalabari Choir and the Hausa Choir of the Host Church, a short play monologue on the Theme; proceeded by Choral Performance by the First Baptist Church Choir and Instrumental Celebration by the First Baptist Church Instrumentalists.
Several Solo performances followed and were proceeded by Installation of Officers. Choral Performances by Pure Olives and Calvary Baptist Church Choir followed afterwards. The National President rendered his closing remarks and appreciation which was followed by a Choral Performance by the Host Association Mass Choir.
The Closing Message was delivered by God through Rev. Dr. Chika Ossai-Ugbah as God took the Congregation through moments of revival and dedication/renewal of commitments to
Him, administering the Lord’s Supper/Communion and anointing all anew for Service.
A handover ceremony was done by the Rivers Baptist Conference MMU Chairman, Dr. Soye Asawo, and her Royal Ambassadors to the Ibadan Baptist Conference MMU Chairman, in a flag presentation.
